It’s about Quebec City, the capital of the province of Quebec, this time. The photo is the Château Frontenac, the landmark hotel in Quebec City, which was taken from a ferry across the St. Lawrence River.
It’s 2 to 3 hours of driving from Montreal to Quebec City. Though it can be reached without using ferry, we can enjoy the view of Château Frontenac from over the water of the St. Lawrence River if we get the ferry from Lévis on the opposite shore.
The photo is the lawn in the Plains of Abraham. There is a walkway, the Terrasse Dufferin, near the Château Frontenac, where we can enjoy the view from the high ground, and it leads to the Plains of Abraham if we walk there. It’s the war site of the Battle of the Plains of Abraham, where the British Army and the French Army fought in 1759. It’s been a very large lawn field these days.
Quebec City is the only remaining fortified city in North America, which was declared World Heritage by UNESCO in 1985. There are still many batteries of cannon in the city. The photo is the battery of Terrasse Dufferin. Seen behind is the Château Frontenac.
Going down a little steep stairway (Breakneck Steps) alongside the Château Frontenac leads us to the rue du Petit-Champlain in the Lower Town.
It was in July 26, 2008 that our family visited Quebec City. It’s been a long time ago.
